About the Artist

Black portraiture artist Nesha Cornett of Love Neesh Art

I’m Nesha Cornett (Neesh). I’m the Charlotte based portrait artist behind “Love Neesh Art.” I paint mostly in acrylic medium.

I started painting during one of the hardest seasons of my life. At the time, I was grieving and trying to move through trauma and years of holding things in. What began as a way to cope slowly turned into a space where I could start healing, and eventually, a way to remember joy again.

The more I painted, the more I realized I was chasing something deeper—memory.

My memory is sacred.

It connects me to my Blackness. It connects me to the culture that raised me, to the love and loss that shaped me, and to my bloodline that’s passed on.

My grandmother is a constant presence in that memory. She was a character—warm, rooted, and deeply present in everything she did. Whether she was growing food or sharing stories, she carried the Deep South with her and made sure we knew that’s where we came from.

It’s because of memory, like that of my grandmother, that brought me to portraiture and figurative art centering Black presence in all its truth—grief, joy, rest, humor, softness.

These are the moments I want to preserve not just for now, but for generations to come. Our lives are made of these moments and they’re worth holding onto.

Whether portraits or murals, collectors often tell me my work feels like home, like peace, like someone saw their story.

My hope is that my work doesn’t just reflect the black experience, but reminds the world that we were always worth seeing.
